 The scenario is a simple one: the Big One has happened, landlines and cell towers are down, and power is out. Once you check on the safety of your immediate family and your neighbors, you realize that getting information about what’s going on is suddenly the most important thing in the world.

A Radio for Worst Case Scenarios

In Part 1, the evolution and deployment of San Marcos’ “WCS” Radio was described. In this part, we cover the construction of the project. As stated in the first article, the device was built with ruggedness and rough treatment in mind, knowing that it may have to be pulled up hillsides to reach relay positions in high places.
