2009 Western US States Fire Season - It's Going to Be a Doozie!
By Lance Winslow

Experts are worried about the 2009 Fire Season out West. Already in early May 2009 there was a huge brush fire in Santa Barbara, and due to all the fuel and dried brush it rapidly grew. Many wildfire analysts say this going to be a really tough year and fire season. There is lots of fuel out there; say fire chiefs. Typically, in California the worst months are late September, October and well into Late November due to the Santa Ana winds (hot winds blowing untypically out of the East).

If you will recall in the last couple of years the massive wildfires around Los Angeles and San Diego, that caused nearly 100,000 people to evacuate and took out some 3500 homes, you will understand why this is so critical. Too, states like Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, and Montana have also had a tough go of it over the last 5-years. The amount of damage to forests, property, and the lives lost is almost immeasurable.

It's time for anyone living near open space or with dried brush around their homes to start clearing to create a safety buffer zone. The best way to prevent personal disaster from these inevitable fires; some caused by lightning, some by stupidity and the rest by arson; is to prepare early. Plan for the worst and hope for the best. It is estimated that this 2009 fire season will rank up near the top worst seasons for the past 10-years. So, we must take these warnings seriously and have a solid strategy in place. Please consider all this.
